ABOUT Sarah

Sarah Milk is a head of department & makeup designer based in Toronto, Canada. She was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for her work on What We Do in the Shadows.

Raised in the the Greater Toronto Area, Sarah was drawn to makeup from a young age. After completing her BA in Psychology from the University of Waterloo, her sister encouraged her to apply to makeup school. Sarah studied at CMU (formerly Complections College of Makeup Art & Design) in Toronto.

Sarah builds strong relationships with her team, the cast, and with production. As a leader she encourages her team to trust their instincts while focusing on story-driven character design. She balances the needs of production and the needs of her team.

Sarah enjoys breakdown makeup (dirt, blood, and sweat), tattoo cover, and beauty makeup. Sarah has a love of reading and uses makeup as a tool for character development. She approaches each project with a problem-solving lens, testing makeup until both her and production are on the same page.

Sarah continues to expand her knowledge by taking workshops and developing her skills. Recently, she took Roberto Pastore’s hand-laid facial hair workshop in Naples, Italy.

Sarah is based in Toronto, CA.
